Position
Purpose:
The
incumbent is responsible for the day to day technical functions
and staff development in Keystone Environmental's biological
services department. The Team Leader is responsible for budgeted
revenue generation for the department in concert with the
objectives of the firm. This position would be the project
lead on selected projects. The Team Leader mentors and trains
staff in area of his/her technical expertise.
Specific
Skills and Experience:
- Holds
a degree in an applied science (major in marine science
preferred or equivalent experience).
- Is
a Registered Professional Biologist.
- Minimum
5 years experience directly related to the business area
preferably in a consulting environment.
- Experience
in applying federal, provincial, and regional environmental
regulatory requirements to BC coastal marine and estuarine
projects.
- Experience
in dealing with FREMP, BERC, Fisheries and Oceans Canada,
Environment Canada, Transport Canada, MOE, ILMB, and Canadian
Port Authorities.
- Ability
to strategize and negotiate on behalf of the client habitat
compensation alternatives with the appropriate agencies.
- Anticipate
construction monitoring requirements and develop plans accordingly.
- Conduct
field data collection programs using appropriate sampling
techniques.
- Design
statistically rigorous and defensible sampling programs.
- Coordinate
field studies; staff projects appropriately.
- Skilled
in clear concise report and proposal writing.
- Communicate
available financial information and targets to direct reports.
- Experience
in sales and marketing, and project management including
planning, managing timelines, budgets and resources and
supervising technical staff.
- Ensure
the team is well trained in project planning and budgeting,
and staying abreast of the status of projects within the
individual's and the teams' control.
- In
collaboration with the Business Development Manager and
Department Heads, generates sufficient revenue to ensure
staff within the business unit have the ability to meet
their annual billable targets.
- Working
in collaboration with the Business Development Manager,
develop staff within the business unit to possess the tools
and skills to write proposals.
- Develop
and maintain a work scheduling process that allows staff
within the team to have opportunities to work (and train)
on projects that are aligned with their career path goals.
- Implement
actions to foster a higher performance and high engagement
culture.
- Review
(QA/QC) work that leaves the team and ensure that the Keystone
Environmental standard for quality is maintained.
- Provide
technical expertise to other business unit staff when required.
- Responsible
for direct reports which may reach a high of six.
- Office
and field work. Field work may be in remote areas.
- Up
to 50% of time out of the office with clients or reviewing
and/or training in the field.
